Mike is the Assistant Manager of Design and Construction Services at California State University Long Beach. He is one of the main points of contact for any construction or design request on the Long Beach campus. From simple carpeting and paint jobs to major construction and renovations, Mike is running anywhere from ten to twelve projects at any given time.

>> My name is Mike Kelly. I am the assistant manager of design and construction services here at CSULB. Although that's my title, you probably could more accurately call me a project manager or a senior project manager, career-wise. My job entails meeting with customers across the campus when they put in their requests for modifications to their facility or surroundings. So I meet with them, determine exactly what it is they want to do. Is this a carpet replacement job? Is it a remodel? Do you want to build a building? That sort of thing. Sort out all the details. And then get it done for them. So I'm, I'm the constant for them throughout the project. They're going to deal with several people, consultants, engineers, and such, but I'm the one that they come to throughout. You have to be able to handle major construction, as I say, constructing a new building or something as simple as painting this wall or replacing the carpet. It's the full gamut. And they really, every single one of them, require the same steps. You've got to find out the requirements, the budget, scheduling -- -- and get it done. A project manager here, and anywhere I think, is always dealing with multiple projects. This, no one has the luxury of just having one project and that's your baby for six months. Here, a typical project manager, or myself, we're, we're running 10, 12 projects at a time. And it could be a couple carpet projects, and it could be a major renovation to a building.
